Checking in to the hospital on October 22, 2008
__Byron and I checked in to Women & Children's Hospital at 5am on Wednesday, October 22, 2008. I was scheduled for an induction at 38 weeks and 2 days. We got settled in our room and the nurse started my IVs at about 5:40am and there was no turning back from there. The morning went by pretty quickly, I guess it helped to have company to pass my time. My mom and mother-in-law Cathy got there a few hours later and then my best friend Heather came around 11am. Byron's brother, Brandon drove in from Pasadena, Texas and Michelle showed up after class.
The contractions started coming once the nurse started my pitocin drip but they weren't very strong until about noon. I decided to ask for my epidural early because I figured that the contractions would only get worse...so why try to deal with the pain if I didn't have to!? The anesthesiologist came and did the epidural and it numbed me for about an hour...then when the nurse put the catheter in my bladder I knew something wasn't right, it didn't feel good. Problem was...I could feel it. I told the anesthesiologist that I was starting to get feeling back and he had to re-do my epidural. That was fun! The second one worked and I couldn't feel any pain just pressure. My legs felt like they weighed 300 lbs. a piece.
Well, around 6:30pm I started pushing and that was an experience! Even though I couldn't feel the pain below, I had pain in my head! I felt like my head was going to explode from holding my breath and and pushing for long periods of time. At one point I thought he was never going to come out! Well, he did... Jackson Dale Racca arrived on October 22, 2008 at 7:06pm. He weighed in at 7 lbs. 8 oz. and measured 20 1/4 inches. He is healthy and as cute as can be! We are so happy that he is finally here!!
